Today is going to be an easy day.
My goal today is to hike 12 miles to the Anderson's home aka casa de luna aka hippie daycare. These trail angels have been hosting pct hikers for 16 years. The front yard has couches and chairs and a outdoor kitchen. There is a arts and craft area where hikers paint rocks which are nestled in areas on the grounds. They hang a sheet on the garage that everyone signs and every morning they take your picture in front of it. They offer a taco salad dinner and pancakes and coffee for breakfast. When you arrive you are greeted by fellow hikers and go pick out a hawian shirt. In the back yard is a field of manzanita trees and with small camping spots nestled in them. It is as much a part of the hiking experience as the wilderness.
The heat broke yesterday so hiking shouldn't be all that bad, my goal is to get there in the evening, so I can hike a nice slow pace.
Today I actually felt bored on the trail. It was strange to feel that way, I know there is nothing boring about what I'm doing but today I was bored with looking at the trail in front of me. Around every corner it looked the same. Around lunch I headed for an old oasis area the Andersons use to keep but that was shut down, but it sounded like a nice shady spot to have lunch and take a afternoon nap to wait out the heat of mid day. Another hiker joined me there and we both filled our stomachs and slept.
Later that day I stopped for a snack and spilled some crumbs in the sand. I was entertained by ants who quickly found he crumbs and carried them off to there home.
One of the feelings I enjoy on the trail is he feeling you get when you have a destination for the day and you round that last bend or come over a hill and see your destination in the distance, it is very rewarding. Today I felt that when I did the last climb over the mountain and saw the road to the andersons, it was beautiful.
It was a little after 7 when I arrived at the road and a 2 mile walk to their house, most people hitch but I don't like doing that alone so I enjoyed the road hike arrived at their house just in time for dinner. I found my spot among the manzanita trees and set up camp.
