Idyllwild or not to Idyllwild that is the question...
So I have some figuring out to do. Everyone is hitching to idyllwild, I plan to hike the fire closure re route, but it's Thursday and I have 2 packages at the post office, and the post office closes at 3 pm Friday and is closed all weekend. Can I hike this re route and get to the post office in time? If I don't make it I will have to spend all weekend in idyllwild waiting for it to open monday. (In retrospect it didn't matter.. it's Sunday and I'm still in freaking idyllwild ) Andrea and I decide to have breakfast at the café then hitch into town, go to the post office, then i will decide to stay the night or hike.
We get a ride with a hiker who is headed out for a couple days on trail, we talk trail stuff and he drops us off in the town center.
We meet up with the group from this morning (one of whom left her phone at the café which I grabbed and brought with me ) and I go to the PO and get my packages. One box is the box that was supose to go to warner springs so I just forward that to another point on the trail. The other box is from my cousin Katie and family, the Hoss' and I can't wait to see what they have sent me!
Ok Hoss family, you package was amazing! Since the grocery store in town here has pretty good prices I'm going to go shopping and get enough to mix in with what I got from the hoss' and make another box to send up the trail.
All the people from the cafe are getting hotel rooms but I hear that the state campground in town has a hiker site that only costs $3 a night, sounds perfect to me!
I head there and set up my tent, then head to the grocery store and spend the rest of the day figuring out what food I will need for the next couple of days and I send the rest on up the trail.
Andrea messages me that they have a hitch back down to the trail head and plan to leave around 10 am the next morning to start the fire re route. I set up my tent about 20 feet from the picnic table and that evening I realize that may not have been the best plan as that is the hangout spot and there is a bit of partying going on. Luckily hikers are early to bed and early to rise so around 8 pm everyone heads off to bed and all is quite and I fall asleep.
Getting the Post Office Business out of the way, was a good idea! Great selection from Hoss family!! Love the California Poppies!
