I woke up this morning with all intentions of hiking. Yesterday was pretty miserable but today would be better right? When I woke up I started moving my feet around in my sleeping bag doing the normal morning stretches and I could tell something was wrong. My feet felt swollen and very stiff. Finally an hour later, after everyone had packed up and left I finally took a look at my feet. The inside of my ankle on my right non injured foot was pretty swollen! I decided I wouldn't be hiking this morning, and just wanted to take care of my feet. First stop, take shower and clean feet. The showers here take tokens so I grabbed a $20 and walked to the ranger station, it was closed. So I started walking into town for change and found myself at the coffee shop, hmm I wonder how that happened? I sat and drank my coffee and talked with a local kid that is starting the trail tomorrow. I was in my pajamas. You would think this is strange but a couple guys walked past me in theirs (actually our thermal layer, and usually our cleanest clothes).
I showered, by the way, the showers here are not the most enjoyable, I miss my baths. Then talked to family and face booked and blogged, all while laying with my feet elevated. I even napped under a manzanita tree, it was wonderful. I WAS l Ok Ning for some real food and decided to wonder into town and see what was open. I found a nice little shop with sandwiches And cheap beer. I then walked around and checked out the town. Idyllwild is a great town and I'm kinda in love with it. It is a cute little mountain town and the people are super friendly and welcoming. If some day I called this place home I would be happy. I stopped by the inn and asked a few questions, I found out they give fide to the trailhead so I paid my $2 and went on my way.
My next goal was to go to the mtn outfitter. I went in looking for compression socks, then looked at insoles, the popular ones a lot of hikers wear. I tried them on with my shoes and they just felt weird. My shoes are not designed to have a raised heal so inserts don't really work with them. I then started looking at shoes and ended up leaving with a pair of brooks cascadias. I also bought a 1 liter platy bottle to use with my filter. The water bottle I was using is ok, but this will work better.also bought a new mouth piece since mine leaks and some moleskin.
I went back to camp and started preparing for hiking tomorrow. The couple in the tent site next to the hiker site came over and offered to bring me back some dinner from town, but I was still full from my sandwich so I declined. People are the best part of this trip so far. As I typed that one of the guys that it is hanging at the picnic table just farted. There has been a lot of that tonight. Ahh the joys of thru hiking...
Which reminds me, as I hiked through town yesterday I had to go to the bathroom and was actually annoyed that I couldn't just go right then and there!
Hahahaha!!! Your post about the farts and then your picture of the candy jars and one of them is "Sour Farts"!! Love it!!
