I have to start this blog by saying a huge thank you to our hosts in Big Teresa and Chuck! You are gracious beyond words, the cabin, the rides to the trail, the dinner that we were supose to be buying for you! [Shakes fist] the friendship and even the parting gift, a copper coin. I will never forget my time spent in Big Bear and can't wait to return to visit you again!
I also have to say another huge thank you to my sister Kathy who sent me an amazing resupply package. I tore into it before taking a pic of how well she had it organized! She made me some great dinners and had every single thing I would need! Love the protein powder and dehydrated milk combo, btw, I add that and a coffee packet and have a great instant breakfast while packing up in the morning.

Morning came fast today! I stayed up way too late trying to update this blog and ended up with little sleep. No problem, I am ready to hit the trail! We have big plans for today, Andrea and I decided to go for a 20 mile day. I have hiked over 20 miles once before, but not since. It was important to us, a way to kinda prove to ourselves that we can pull big miles. I feel so much stronger, my muscles have had a chance to heal.
The hike today was magical. The Big Bear area is like a little jem in southern California. The hills are covered in pine trees and you forget your in a desert. Not far from town the signs of a recent burn are everywhere. I came around
A corner to find Andrea looking out at the view. I said to her "it's so amazingly beautiful and sad at the same time". We looked out and wondered how it burned, some hills had no trees, in the valleys were groups of trees that were spared.
the goal for today was splinters cabin. A cabin? The whole way I wondered if we would be able to sleep inside or not. When we arrived we realized that it was a building built on the location of the original splinters cabin. Andrea also pointed out to me that there was a sign posted warning of "the plague" in the area, THE PLAGUE! what?!!!
I was pretty exhausted so decided to just put up my tent, cook my dinner then crawl in my tent and eat.
Tomorrow I reach 300 miles and get to go to a hot springs! I can't wait!

You are most welcome! I enjoyed assembling the "Care Pkg" for you! (The bag has Carnation instant breakfast in it, plus protein powder, plus the dehydrated milk, for anyone else who would love to send it to her.)
ReplyDeleteI love all the pics, but the Plague?? Seriously?? Wow! ( I read all the fine print.) I love the picture of the hydrotherapy that you enjoyed. :)
Again, a HUGE THANK YOU to Teresa and Chuck for their loving kindnesses shown to our beloved Colleen!! I know that I speak for everyone that is following this journey!! <3 <3
