I did it! I survived my first day on the trail and slept alone in a tent for the very first time. Go me! Haha
The Temps got down into the 40's and I was a bit cold when sleeping, I'm having a hard time learning how to sleep in a mummy bag as I like to sleep on my stomach. I found myself just burrowing down into my bag, then the moisture from my breath makes me damp, then cold. This is something I will really have to work on.
I made a cup of coffee packed up my gear and headed out. I slept in a river valley so the start of today's climb will be hiking up this mountain then to Lake Morena campground. I was close to the campground and hiking with Barbara when we came across our first rattle snake. It was sunning itself on the trail and quickly slithered off into the brush, it gave us one little rattle as a warning.
I arrived at the campground and met up a friend. I took advantage of the free showers, aired out my gear then headed down the road for a burger. Take note: the burgers in lake merina are amazing and totally worth the stop! The employees are very hiker friendly and the store has lots of little snacks and a liquor depart. Yes I did hike out with a small bottle of vodka, the sample size.
I hiked with Duane 6 more miles down the trail to another campground. This one was a horse friendly campground and had stalls to put your horses in at each site, very cool. Barbara who I camped with the night before was already there along with a guy named justin. It was a nice night and we all settled into our routine of setting up our tents and cooking dinner.
Right around the time we were all getting ready for bed, around 7pm. A guy who must have been drunk, drove his truck pulling a long trailer with a huge genorator on it, through the grounds taking out the horse stall across from us then drove over 3 big logs used to define the road. We heard him hit a few more things down the road. That was our excitement for the night.. or so we thought.
A few hours later I was awoken by a crazy wind storm. There were gusts around 55 mph and I thought my tent was going to blow down, but honestly I was too tired, knew I was safe and just went back to sleep.

Snakes seen: 2
Those are some nice pictures showing all the different varieties of tents. Obviously this will not be a boring trip by any means! Snakes, drunks and high winds. :D
