Day 9 - 4/22

Miles I hiked: 12.6
Camped at mile: 94.5
Hikers I camped with: 10 ish
Ending elevation: 4303'
Steps: 36,722

How to sum up today? Do I have to look at this valley all day? Yes, Colleen, you do.
Today was spent walking along the side of a mountain in and out of the washes (I think that's what it's called) how can I explain? The side of the mountain isn't smooth it goes in and out and you walk way more miles than if you were driving on the road below. I spent the entire day looking at the Jullian mountain on the other side of the valley and 1 damn house down in the valley below. I felt like I was walking but going nowhere.
At one point 2 ravens were flying next to me, one of them would flip upside down and tuck his wings in and start to drop. Then we would flip around and catch up to the other one and do it again. I think he was trying to teach the other raven his cool trick. It was an amazing sight and by the time I got my camera out to record it they had flown out of view.
Since we have been hiking along this valley occasionally military jets fly through. They dip down below the mountains flying through the valleys, it looks like so much fun. All these flying things are enjoying this section much more than me. At one point 2 jets buzzed right over me. I almost fell back into the hill trying to watch them. 2 people who were below me yelled something up to me, I yelled down to the "that was awesome". An hour or so later they caught up to me and the women asked me what my trail name was. I said I don't have one and she said "you do now, your name is Jet". They were entertained by how excited I got from the jets. So that is the story of how I got my trail name. I am Jet.

  1. I am looking forward to seeing your name, Jet, in the end of the PCT 2015 Thru Hikers Film! And to see all the many pics of yours and your sweet face, too!
